TAB’s EAS Cybersecurity Webinar Ready for Viewing

posted on 8.31.2026

- Pecena, Nyman Talk Firewalls, Passwords, Compliance

Texas broadcasters last week took a deep dive into ensuring they're ready for the FCC's new rules for strengthening stations' cybersecurity for EAS equipment in a live TAB webinar presented Aug. 25, featuring broadcast engineer Wayne Pecena and attorney Jessica Nyman.

The recently adopted FCC rules, which are intended to protect a station's entire broadcast chain, take effect Sept. 29, and come with hefty penalties for non-compliance.

Pecena, CPBE/CBNE for KAMU FM/TV in College Station, and Nyman, attorney with TAB's FCC legal counsel, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, outlined multiple steps for ensuring stations' compliance with the new regulations, from constructing a network firewall for all EAS and programming equipment connected to the Internet, to assigning strong passwords across the board.

Members can access the webinar on demand in the 2026 Webinar Archive available here.
