The Green Wellness Program: Plants-2-Plate has openings for an intensive six-month program that promotes lifestyle change, including a plant-predominant eating pattern to achieve optimal health.
The program will start on Wednesday, Feb. 5, with a deadline to enroll by Jan. 31. The program sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 1:15-2:15 p.m. at the School of Nursing Building on the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive.
The program includes a plant-based diet and other lifestyle modifications and may benefit people living with chronic conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, fatty liver disease or obesity. Members of the university and the community are invited to enroll.
Program participants are challenged to follow a whole food, plant-based nutrition plan, and will learn how to adopt a healthy lifestyle and eating pattern centered around foods that come primarily from plants, like fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and legumes.
The program encourages a strong support system through in-person, group medical visits that allow participants to build accountability, trade recipes and learn from each other. Previous participants have reduced or eliminated the need for medication, reduced weight and improved overall health.
In addition to nutrition planning, participants are also coached on ways to reduce stress through meditation, proper sleep and journaling. The program's team members include a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner and a registered dietitian - all experts in plant-based nutrition and wellness.
Join with a friend or family member to provide extra support. During the course of the program, there will be 20 medical visits - including three individual provider visits, 15 group visits and two registered dietitian visits. Participants completing the program will receive a certificate of completion and program gift.
Two more sessions will start in April.
