The initiative includes three legislative measures that will invest more than $30 million to establish a University of Oklahoma College of Nursing satellite campus in Tahlequah and provide millions of dollars annually in scholarships and training programs for Cherokee citizens pursuing health care careers.
The centerpiece establishes the Cherokee Nation Nursing and Allied Health Education Center through a partnership with OU, transforming the current Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital facility in Tahlequah into a state-of-the-art nursing education campus.
