Wasilla man sentenced to 20 years for possessing child pornography

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A Wasilla man was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography involving young children.

In April 2022, the FBI received information indicating that Paul Greeno, 46, was engaging in inappropriate behavior toward children. In June 2022, during the course of the investigation, law enforcement executed a search warrant for Mr. Greeno's cell phone and found child sexual abuse material (CSAM), some of which depicted sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.

On August 15, 2024, Greeno was charged by criminal complaint with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of child pornography and was formally indicted by a federal grand jury a week later. On May 5, 2026, Greeno pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

In handing down the sentence, the Court emphasized that child pornography is a scourge on the community, and punishment must be severe enough to deter others from seeking it out.

"Mr. Greeno's actions, including preying on children, are unforgivable," said U.S. Attorney Michael J. Heyman for the District of Alaska. "Our office is fully dedicated to keeping Alaska safe for the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community, and we will fully prosecute any individual who decides to engage in such appalling crimes."

"Mr. Greeno posed a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of our most vulnerable - our children - for his despicable crimes involving possession of CSAM," said Special Agent in Charge Matthew Schlegel of the FBI Anchorage Field Office. "Alaska and our children are in a safer place with Mr. Greeno behind bars. Protecting children from those who abuse and exploit them will always be at the forefront of the FBI's mission."

The FBI Anchorage Field Office and Anchorage Police Department investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alana Weber and Jennifer Ivers prosecuted the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys' Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
