Medford DMV resumes offering Commercial Driver’s License skills testing

MEDFORD -- The Medford DMV at 987 Medford Center Drive is once again offering Commercial Driver's License (CDL) skills testing after a five-year pause. The office is currently offering one test a week at 8:30 a.m. on Fridays. Tests can be scheduled from seven to 30 days in advance on DMV2U. The CDL skills test fee is $145.

"We're excited to be able to offer skills testing to prospective CDL holders in our community," said DMV South Region Manager Jonah Kopp. "Medford DMV is the only office south of Eugene administering CDL tests, besides third-party companies. We anticipate this will be a popular service."

Part of the reason for the pause was staffing combined with a lack of adequate parking and testing space. Safety checks and initial maneuvers will now be completed at the Oregon Department of Transportation's Central Point maintenance yard at 4141 Hamrick Road, just a few miles away.

To get a CDL in Oregon, you must pass both a written knowledge test to get your Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) and a three-part behind-the-wheel skills test. As of March 16, Oregon DMV no longer issues or reinstates limited-term (non-domiciled) CDLs and CLPs.

The Medford DMV hopes to eventually hire a second trained CDL examiner to offer even more appointments to better serve its customers.
