July 29 - Department of State Issues Determination in Town Abandonment Application for Town of Hartman

Denver, July 29, 2026 - Yesterday, the Colorado Department of State issued a formal determination that the Town of Hartman has been abandoned pursuant to 31-3-201 C.R.S.

This determination follows a public hearing held on Monday, July 13 at 2 p.m. According to both the application received on June 17, 2026, and the evidence presented at the public hearing, the Town of Hartman had no Board of Trustees or Town Clerk, was unable to hold a town election, and owned infrastructure critical for the treatment or delivery of water to residents.

A copy of this determination has been filed with the Prowers County Clerk and Recorder. All existing streets, avenues, and alleys previously located within the abandoned town that are not owned by a third party shall be vested in in the Board of County Commissioners of Prowers County. Ownership of water infrastructure critical for the treatment or delivery of water to residents shall be vested in Prowers County, which shall transfer said infrastructure to an entity whose primary purpose is water treatment or delivery.
