FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at about 5:07 p.m., Sunnyvale DPS Patrol and Fire personnel responded to the area of Lawrence Expressway and Lochinvar Avenue on a report of a vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found one of the involved vehicles on its roof, engulfed in flames and the driver trapped inside. Emergency personnel attempted to rescue the driver but could not, due to the untenable fire conditions. The driver was later pronounced deceased. Three other vehicles were involved in the collision. The other involved parties sustained minor injuries and remained at scene and cooperated with the investigation. Lawrence Expressway between Benton St. and Homestead Rd. was closed for several hours during the collision investigation.

Speed appears to be a factor in the collision. The collision remains under investigation by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact MAIT Investigator M. Longanecker at (408) 730-7110.
