Ciena Relocating Corporate Offices to Maple Lawn

Ciena Corporation to move its office and employees from BWI area to 8150 Maple Lawn Boulevard in Howard County, Maryland.

Networking systems, software, and services company will move approximately 160 employees from BWI area to Howard County mixed-use community this summer

BALTIMORE, MD - Ciena Corporation, a Maryland-based company and the global leader in high-speed connectivity, has signed a lease for 28,132 square feet at Maple Lawn, a 605-acre mixed-use community in Howard County. The company intends to relocate its corporate offices and approximately 160 employees from the BWI area to 8150 Maple Lawn Boulevard in Fulton this summer. St. John Properties Assistant Vice President of Leasing Bill Jautze represented the landlord, and JLL's Mike Sullivan, Amanda Rosenthal, and Justin Burrows handled negotiations on behalf of the tenant.

Ciena's networking systems, interconnects, automation software, and services are designed to support rapidly growing bandwidth demand and help service provider and hyperscale customers thrive in the AI era. Ciena will occupy the entire third floor at 8150 Maple Lawn Boulevard, a newly constructed three-story, 86,000-square-foot Class 'A' office building. The space will house a team of accounting, finance, legal, information technology, human resources, marketing, and supply chain professionals.

"Maple Lawn's upscale and high-profile business environment matches the best-of-class standards we aspire to as a company, and this move provides a multi-functional and motivating setting for our local teams," stated Marc Graff, Chief Financial Officer of Ciena. "With our lease expiring, we took the opportunity to explore available options, and we found the perfect solution at 8150 Maple Lawn Boulevard. The size and flexible floorplan aligns well with our operational requirements and future growth. The broader business environment - with walkable access to essential amenities and a well-integrated campus setting - adds to the overall value and makes this a strong fit for our long-term needs."

Maple Lawn, a partnership between master developer Greenebaum Enterprises and St. John Properties, Inc., presently consists of more than 1,300 homes, over 1.8 million square feet of Class 'A' office and flex/R&D space, and is supported by more than 215,000 square feet of retail amenities. The community is situated near the intersection of MD Route 29 and Johns Hopkins Road, and is three miles from I-95, 11 miles from BWI Airport, and 20 miles from Washington DC and Baltimore. More than 170,000 consumers reside within a 5-mile radius of the mixed-use community, including more than 64,000 households with an average annual income exceeding $180,000.

"Maple Lawn is equidistant from Washington DC and Baltimore, which makes it an attractive headquarters location. When you factor in the wide range of walkable amenities and the high quality of the overall Maple Lawn mixed use community, it's a great fit for companies looking to attract and retain talent," stated Matt Lenihan, Executive Vice President of Leasing for St. John Properties. "We are excited to welcome Ciena and its team to Maple Lawn."
