CPOC Staff Q&A: Meet Ewuare Osayande

Ewuare Osayande, Esq. joined CPOC in May as our new Deputy Executive Director. Curious about his role and what he enjoys outside of work? Check out our Q&A blog post to get to know him better! Stay tuned as we continue to introduce more members of the CPOC team.

What is something you hope to accomplish within your first year at CPOC?

I am most interested in seeing CPOC embed ourselves within the communities of this city. I want CPOC to become a known and respected entity to all who call our great city home.

What drew you to this role in police oversight?

I've been involved in the work of holding police accountable and seeking justice for those wrongfully killed by the police since I was a student leader in college. Those experiences laid the groundwork for most of my organizational leadership since and have served as a compass that has guided me to this role.

What is the most rewarding part of your job so far?

Thus far, the most rewarding part of my job has been representing the work of CPOC to the public. Meeting with people who are equally invested in this critical work and certainly meeting with families who have experienced harm by the police.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am an avid reader, so I enjoy that. I also enjoy checking out the various coffee shops throughout the city and going for long walks.

What is your favorite part of Philadelphia?

My favorite part of Philadelphia is the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum. Although it is right in the heart of this bustling city, it provides something of a sanctuary for me.
