FEMA Makes More Than $4.3 Million Available for Pre-Disaster Mitigation for Flood, Wildfire and Severe Weather Resilience Projects in Iowa and Kansas

KANSAS CITY, MO - Today, FEMA announced that federal funding for hazard mitigation projects is available to Iowa and Kansas to address flood, severe weather and wildfire risks. This funding will empower states to take decisive, proactive steps to protect their communities from future disasters.

Congress authorized these projects through the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act. Funding for these projects has been made available through FEMA's Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program. Nationwide, 40 states and one Tribal Nation are expected to receive more than $189 million in federal funding for 125 projects.

In FEMA Region 7, identified projects include:

  • $2.9 million to the State of Iowa for the City Water Pollution Control Plant Flood Mitigation Project in the City of Davenport
  • $1.4 million to the State of Iowa for the 3rd Avenue SE Downtown Pump Station Backup Generator in City of Cedar Rapids
  • $44,000 to the State of Kansas for Back-Up Generator Procurement in the City of Englewood

Before funds are awarded, these communities must submit an application by 4 p.m. Central Time, July 22, 2026. FEMA will review all applications and disburse funding after confirming eligibility criteria have been met.

Applications must be submitted through FEMA Grants Outcomes (FEMA GO), the agency's grants management system. For more information, review the Notice of Funding Opportunity on Grants.gov.
