Lee University's Art Gallery will showcase the creativity and talent of Encore students in a special art exhibit opening with a reception on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 9:15-10:15 a.m. The Encore Art Show will feature a variety of works, including ceramics, watercolor paintings, and mixed media pieces, all created by students aged 60 and up who have become integral members of the university's art community.
"The support the Encore students have provided to the studio art program has been paramount," said Victoria Phillips, visiting assistant professor of art at Lee. "From donations and contributions to equipment to engaging in our courses, they have truly become a part of our art community, and we are incredibly grateful for them."
Dayne Frost will have several watercolor paintings on display, including works titled 'Summer Flowers' and 'Blue Cupola.'"
"Dayne's work is a breath of fresh air," said Phillips. "She captures nature from a feminine perspective, offering elements of light that are accentuated through the pigments."
Sudhir Mendiratta will have a slab teapot, titled "Tea Pot with a Personality" displayed in the exhibit.
"Sudhir's teapot exhibits so much movement that the piece almost feels animated with its whimsical aesthetic," said Phillips. "I could go on and on about the work these students have produced, so instead, I invite you to take a look at all these wonderful pieces while the show is up."
The Encore Art Show will run through Tuesday, Feb. 4, and is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting libguides.com/homepage. Squires Library is located on the corner of 11th Street and Paul Conn Parkway.
