NASHVILLE, Tenn. - ICE New Orleans lodged an immigration detainer for Felipe Alvarado Hernandez following his arrest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured four pedestrians in downtown Nashville, including two in wheelchairs.
Hernandez, a 47-year-old Mexican national, faces charges of reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give information or render aid, failure to file report of accident with injury or damage, financial responsibility violation with injury and driving with a revoked license.
As of July 29, one of the victims was still hospitalized at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Burn Unit for treatment.
According to local reporting, the crash occurred June 13, near Demonbreun Street and Music Circle East. Investigators allege Hernandez was driving a pickup truck and attempting to turn left when he drove on the sidewalk and struck four pedestrians who were waiting to cross the street. During his arrest at a home in Antioch, officers said Hernandez admitted to driving the truck - also located at the home - the morning of the crash.
"When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions. Our officers remain committed to enforcing the law professionally, protecting the public, and upholding the trust placed in us by the American people," said ERO New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig.
Hernandez entered the country on an unknown date and at unknown location. On Jan. 5, 2004, he agreed to removal after Michigan's Roseville Police Department referred him to ICE following his arrest for retail fraud. He later illegally reentered the country.
Under President Donald Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, ICE is targeting the worst of the worst.
