Should Advised Clients Automatically Become Accredited Investors

A proposal in Congress would allow clients working with financial advisors to qualify as accredited investors, potentially expanding access to private market investments such as private equity and private credit to millions more Americans. However, some advisors have raised concerns that broader access could expose investors to greater risks, noting that according to CFP Board's Financial Planning Review, only about 13% of Americans currently qualify as accredited investors under existing wealth-based standards.
