Community leaders and residents are invited to celebrate the completion of Draper Park, a new pocket park located along the Grant Wood Trail near 31st Street, just south of the American Legion (625 31st Street, Marion). A ribbon cutting will take place on Monday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
Draper Park honors Marion's railroad history and serves as a destination along the Grant Wood Trail, which follows the former railroad right-of-way and connects several community parks.
The park is named in honor of former Councilmember Paul Draper, who served on the Marion City Council from 2012 to 2020. Draper was a tireless advocate for the community, a champion of Marion's progress and a leader in preserving the city's railroad history.
