Wayne State University celebrates $100,000+ donation of MillerKnoll furniture and design services

WHAT: Storied west Michigan-based furniture designer and manufacturer MillerKnoll has donated furniture and design services valued at more than $100,000 to Wayne State's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA) to renovate two art classrooms in Wayne State's historic Old Main building. Representatives from MillerKnoll and its supplier American Interiors - alongside leaders from Wayne State's Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (DEED) and CFPCA - will celebrate and unveil the donation at Old Main.

WHEN and WHERE: Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Old Main, 4841 Cass Ave., Detroit, MI 48201. The celebration and unveiling will feature leaders from MillerKnoll, Wayne State, and American Interiors, including remarks from:

  • Dr. Kelly Young, interim dean, CFPCA
  • Dr. Lauren Kalman, department chair, James Pearson Duffy Department of Art, Art History, and Design
  • Danny DeRose, associate director of fund development and corporate engagement officer, DEED
  • Jereme Brown, client development executive, MillerKnoll

All leaders will be available for comment. The two classrooms will be available for photos.

WHY: MillerKnoll's donation is the culmination of more than two years of student impact-focused collaboration between the company and Wayne State. In these efforts, MillerKnoll has brought guest speakers to Wayne State, provided students and faculty with a tour of its Zeeland, Mich. headquarters, and more. The renovation of the two art classrooms demonstrates MillerKnoll's belief in Wayne State's vision and a dedication to building a twenty-first century talent pipeline with Detroit - Michigan's largest and most diverse city - as its focal point.

PARKING AND TRANSPORT: Street parking is available around Old Main using the Park Detroit system, and the university has several paid parking garages within a few blocks of the building. The QLINE and the Route 4 bus run N/S on Woodward Avenue one block east of Old Main. The Route 8 bus going E/W on Warren Avenue goes directly past Old Main. MoGo Bike Rental has a stop on Cass Avenue in front of Old Main.
