WASHINGTON (June 26, 2026) - Today, Shannon McGahn, executive vice president and chief advocacy officer of the National Association of Realtors®, issued the following statement after the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced several policy changes to its Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Single Family mortgage insurance program with the intention to lower costs, reduce regulatory burdens, and improve affordability.
"The National Association of Realtors® welcomes the Federal Housing Administration's recent policy updates to modernize and streamline the mortgage lending process. These changes are an important step toward creating a more efficient regulatory framework that better serves both borrowers and lenders.
NAR strongly supports policies that responsibly expand access to credit for qualified homebuyers while reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens that can delay transactions and increase costs. By improving the efficiency of the lending process, these updates can help strengthen housing affordability and create greater opportunities for Americans to achieve homeownership."
