ATLANTA - State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys), chairman of the House Interstate Cooperation Committee, along with the Camden County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), recently held a ceremony at the Historic Courthouse in Woodbine to commemorate the installation of the Rachel Hodge Memorial Intersection sign. The sign, located at the intersection of State Route 25 Spur/Satilla Bluff Road and Pine Forest Drive, is now permanently displayed in recognition of former Communications Officer Rachel J. Hodge and her legacy within the community.
"Rachel dedicated herself to serving others, and her compassion and professionalism left a profound impact on everyone who worked alongside her," said Chairman Sainz. "By naming this intersection in her honor, we ensure that her legacy remains a visible reminder of the essential role she played in keeping our community safe. I was proud to introduce House Resolution 886 to designate this site in Rachel's memory, and I am grateful to see our community come together to recognize her service and sacrifice."
Communications Officer Rachel Hodge passed away on April 18, 2020, following an automobile accident on I-95 as she was leaving work after a 12-hour shift. Rachel served the Camden County Sheriff's Office as a 911 dispatcher.
The ceremony brought together members of the Hodge family, Sheriff Kevin Chaney, county officials, CCSO personnel and community members. Attendees gathered to reflect on Rachel's service and the significance of the tribute. The memorial location, near the route Rachel traveled daily to and from the 911 Center, was chosen to honor her dedication to public safety and the community she served.
During the ceremony, the Hodge family was presented with an honorary memorial sign identical to the one installed at the intersection, providing them with a keepsake that reflects Rachel's impact.
The memorial designation was made possible through House Resolution 886, sponsored by Chairman Sainz during the 2025 legislative session, which designates the intersection in Rachel's honor.
