COLUMBUS - House Bill 289, legislation to enforce Ohio's Sex Offender Registration and Notification (SORN), has been signed into law by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel (R-Columbiana).
The bill, which is joint-sponsored by State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron), monitors the amount of time an offender is not compliant, pausing the clock until the individual's information is accurate. It works to honor the original intent of the registry.
"Passing this legislation is a big step in making sure our communities are safe from these predators," said Blasdel. "I'm thankful for the support of the legislature and my joint-sponsor Rep. Swearingen to get this over the finish line."
The Attorney General's office reports there are nearly 500 noncompliant offenders in Ohio.
