Prime Minister Fiala: We will develop another sanctions package in case Putin is unwilling to end the war

The results of Monday's negotiations at the White House were discussed on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, via video conference by the leaders of the countries forming the so-called Coalition of the Willing, including Prime Minister Petr Fiala. The meeting was followed by a virtual meeting of the Prime Ministers and Presidents of the EU Member States, who agreed on further joint action in cooperation with the United States of America.

"Useful coordination within the Coalition of the Willing followed by an equally effective European Council format discussion. Within the Coalition, we will focus in the coming days on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine so that a truly lasting peace can be achieved. We will develop another sanctions package within the European Union in case Vladimir Putin is unwilling to end the war. Both of these efforts will be undertaken in close cooperation with the United States," said Prime Minister Petr Fiala after the meeting.
