The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is pleased to announce that Orange County has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2025 budget. This prestigious award recognizes Orange County's commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting and marks a significant achievement in the County's financial transparency and accountability.
To receive this award, Orange County had to meet rigorous standards for effective budget presentation. The budget document was assessed based on its ability to serve as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. Each budget must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and meet the fourteen mandatory criteria set forth by GFOA to qualify for the award.
"There is no higher priority than responsible financial management, and this award reflects the work we are doing to ensure that Orange County remains financially strong and transparent," said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. "I am proud of our Budget and Finance teams for their hard work and dedication in presenting a budget that serves as a clear, comprehensive roadmap for the County's future."
The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award underscores the County's commitment to maintaining best practices in budgeting and providing taxpayers with clear and accessible information regarding the allocation and use of public funds. The GFOA's Budget Awards Program has over 1,700 participants, and recipients are considered pioneers in efforts to improve the quality of budgeting across North America.

"This recognition is not only a testament to the hard work of the Budget Team, but it also highlights County Executive Neuhaus' and the Budget department's shared commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and innovation in public finance."
