EU Ambassador Martin Selmayr chaired the EU Heads of Missions meeting
This morning, the EU27 Ambassadors at the Rome-based UN Organisations, had their regular EU Heads of Missions with the Polish presidency and the forthcoming Danish & Cypriot presidencies.
HoMs analysed the efficiency of FAO after the recent meetings of the Programme and Finance Committees and prepared the common position for the FAO Council & Conference. EU HoMs also assessed the implications of UN SG Antonio Guterres's reform initiative UN80 for the wider UN system and notably for Rome (FAO, IFAD, WFP).
EU Ambassador Martin Selmayr underlined how in these volatile geopolitical times, the EU will remain a reliable, predictable and credible partner in multilateral relations. We will continue to uphold the UN Charter and the rules and principles it enshrines, in particular those of sovereignty and territorial integrity, political independence and self-determination. We remain committed to the rules-based international order and to the principle of sustainable development, whether in the field of standard setting for agriculture & fisheries, climate change, biodiversity, bioeconomy or international humanitarian aid.
Thanks a lot to the Embassy of Poland for hosting this important EU coordination meeting in your beautiful embassy - and for the delicious apples from Poland!
