Governor Meyer Names Updated Delaware Interfaith Council


DOVER - Today, Governor Matt Meyer announced new members for the Delaware Interfaith Council, reinforcing its role in strengthening communities and fostering collaboration between faith-based organizations and government service providers.

"The Delaware Interfaith Council is dedicated to advocating for policies that will foster community and uphold our responsibility to one another, and I want to thank the outgoing members for their leadership and guidance over the last year," said Governor Matt Meyer. "Delaware's religious communities remain fundamental to the strength and identity of our beloved state, and we must do everything in our power to preserve and uplift them. I want to thank the new members for their willingness to serve, and we look forward to collaborating with faith-based groups to advance shared priorities in education, health, housing, and other critical needs, working tirelessly to bring costs down and build an even more welcoming environment in the First State."

The following individuals have been appointed to serve on the Delaware Interfaith Council:

  • Rev. Dr. Ronald W. Whitaker, II, Methodist Protestant (Chair of Council)
  • Rev. Patrick Burke, Episcopalian Community
  • Jagdeep Hundal, Sikh Community
  • Rev. Darien Jones, African Methodist Community
  • Rev. Michael Kurth, Episcopalian Community
  • Irfan Patel, Muslim Community
  • Andrew Ramsaran, Hindu Community
  • Rabbi Yair Robinson, Jewish Community
  • Rev. Cathy Rion Starr, Unitarian Universalist Community
  • Dr. Vicky Gordy Stith, United Methodist Community
  • Dr. Wesleigh Thomas, Calvary Baptist Community

In January 2026, Governor Meyer signed Executive Order 15, reconstituting the Delaware Interfaith Council and expanding its charge. The Council will serve as a formal advisory and action-oriented body that mobilizes faith communities to advance the public good across the state. Council members will collaborate across traditions to address pressing social challenges and promote equity and well-being for all residents.

Each Council member will lead a specific issue area working group, ensuring coordinated action. These priority areas include health, housing, immigration, education, public safety, and economic opportunity.

Established in 2012, the Delaware Interfaith Council serves as a foundation for supporting strong communities across the State by addressing issues such as poverty, crime, violence, lack of education, homelessness, and other social challenges. The Council creates opportunities for improved communication and collaboration between faith-based organizations and government service providers, ensuring Delaware's faith organizations remain meaningfully included in this ongoing effort.
