WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 16, 2026) - Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) sent a formal letter to U.S. Attorney Walter Joseph "Jay" Clayton III demanding immediate access to the unredacted version of a critical December 19, 2019 memorandum titled "Investigation into Potential Co-Conspirators of Jeffrey Epstein."
The memorandum, originally addressed to former U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman, was released by the Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act (Public Law 119-38). Despite this federal mandate for transparency, the document remains heavily redacted and appears to conceal the identities of wealthy and powerful individuals who conspired in Epstein's sex trafficking operations.
"Victims deserve justice, and the American people deserve the truth," said Congresswoman Mace."The Epstein Files Transparency Act was passed to end the cover-ups, not continue them. Anyone who enabled or participated in Jeffrey Epstein's horrific crimes against women and children must be exposed, prosecuted, and put behind bars. No excuses."
After visiting the DOJ last week to review what was described as an "unredacted" version of the memorandum, Rep. Mace discovered the document remained heavily redacted. The DOJ claimed the redactions were applied by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York prior to transmission and they do not have the unredacted memorandum.
In her letter, Rep. Mace emphasized reviewing the unredacted document is essential for Congressional oversight of the implementation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act and for uncovering the full extent of Epstein's criminal network.
Rep. Mace also requested U.S. Attorney Clayton provide the DOJ with an unredacted version of the memo so a properly redacted version, containing only redactions authorized by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, can be disclosed to the public as required by law.
The document in question is EFTA02731082 in the Epstein Files Transparency Act database.
