WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate passed Sens. John Kennedy (R-La.) and Bill Cassidy's (R-La.) resolution commending Centenary College of Louisiana on its 200th anniversary and honoring its long history of service to the State of Louisiana and the United States.
"For 200 years, Centenary College has helped shape Louisiana's leaders, strengthened the Shreveport-Bossier community, and upheld the best traditions of higher education. This bicentennial is a testament to the college's resilience, academic excellence, and lasting impact on our state. I'm proud to see the Senate pass my resolution honoring this great institution," said Kennedy.
"For 200 years, Centenary College of Louisiana has shaped leaders and served not only the Shreveport community but our entire state. Its bicentennial is a celebration of the past and the bright future ahead," said Cassidy.
"Centenary is proud to be Louisiana's oldest college. For two hundred years, the college has been preparing students to serve our state, region, and nation as physicians, scientists, clergy, business people, artists, and so much more. We are grateful for the support of our community and are excited to being our third century of service," said Dr. Christopher Holoman, President, Centenary College.
Founded in 1825, Centenary College of Louisiana is the oldest institution of higher learning in Louisiana and the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River. Over two centuries, the college has educated generations of students while serving as a cultural, intellectual, and economic anchor in Northwest Louisiana.
The resolution recognizes Centenary's growth and achievements throughout its history, including its relocation to Shreveport in 1908, its nationally ranked liberal arts programs, and its contributions to the region's cultural and civic life.
