The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has been honored with the prestigious Technology Trailblazer Award from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), an international organization that recognizes innovation and leadership in motor vehicle and law enforcement services. This is the first time in its 20-year history that DDS has received this award.
"Congratulations to the hardworking DDS team on this well-earned recognition of their efforts to improve efficiency and better serve Georgians," said Governor Brian Kemp. "Finding innovative ways to meet the evolving needs of constituents and businesses is essential to being good stewards of state resources. DDS is often the first interaction Georgians have with state government, and I'm grateful this team is working to make those interactions smooth and successful."
This distinguished award highlights DDS's leadership in driving innovation to improve service, security, and efficiency for Georgians. The Agency boasts an average monthly statewide wait time of under seven minutes (0.06:41) and has served 2,048,097 customers in 2005 to date.
DDS Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon said, "We are committed to providing secure, efficient, and customer-friendly services. Our achievements over the past year demonstrate how technology can transform the way we serve the public, making it faster, safer, and more convenient for everyone."
DDS also recently announced that Georgia's Digital Driver's License and ID application has achieved a remarkable milestone - over one half million (500,000) customers have added a digital driver's license and/or ID to their smartphone wallet since the program launched in May 2023. The Agency has incorporated this technology at customer service centers statewide for customers to access The Fast Lane- a streamlined VIP service designed to reduce wait time and eliminate paperwork.
Among the projects recognized by AAMVA were:
Self-Service Kiosks - Now available in DDS customer service centers and select grocery store chains statewide, these kiosks allow customers to renew or replace their licenses quickly and easily, reducing wait times and expanding accessibility.
Incode Address and Password Reset Technology - A secure, customer-focused system that empowers Georgians to update addresses and reset DDS account credentials remotely and securely - a seamless process - without staff intervention.
App Clip for License Applications - An innovative feature that streamlines the license application process by allowing customers who have the Digital ID to prepopulate their information, saving time and simplifying the application experience when visiting DDS locations.
The AAMVA Technology Trailblazer Award is presented annually to only one State that demonstrates leadership and innovation in the use of technology to advance customer service, security, and efficiency. Georgia's recognition reflects its ongoing efforts to set new standards for excellence among driver licensing agencies worldwide.
