Winnipeg, MB- At 7:27 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, one-and-a-half storey house in the 700 block of Magnus Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the structure. Firefighters launched a defensive fire attack as it was not safe to enter. They remain on scene at this time, using an aerial ladder and hand lines to apply water to the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
Neighbouring homes have been temporarily evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg's Emergency Social Services team responded to provide temporary support to affected residents.
The house has sustained significant smoke, fire and water damages. Due to structural concerns and to ensure all hot spots are extinguished, WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition. Road closures in the area will remain in place until work is completed at the scene.
Once crews clear the scene, residents should use caution in the area, as water used to fight the fire will be frozen, creating slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required to improve traction.
The fire is under investigation.
