The European Union strongly condemns the latest Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, which targeted civilian and economic infrastructure in the south of the country and injured 73 civilians, including women and children. We express our full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and wish those injured a full and speedy recovery. The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable.
These attacks constitute a dangerous escalation, violate international law, undermine regional security and stability and risk further jeopardising efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Yemen.
We call on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks inside and outside Yemen, including attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, and comply with UNSC Resolutions 2722 (2024) and 2826 (2026).
Peace and stability in Yemen are essential for the security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea. The European Union remains firmly committed to supporting the people of Yemen and to working with the United Nations, regional partners and the international community towards de-escalation and a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable peace.
