Rep. Lynn Smith’s Legislation to Ratify Amendments to State Water Management Plan Signed into Law by Governor Kemp

ATLANTA - State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), chair of the House Natural Resources & Environment Committee, announces that House Resolution 1008, legislation she sponsored to ratify amendments to the comprehensive statewide water management plan, has been signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. At the bill signing, Chairlady Smith was also commended by Gov. Kemp and Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) for her years of service to the state.

"I was proud to join Governor Kemp at the Georgia Forestry Association to celebrate the signing of this resolution into state law," said Chairlady Smith. "Last week's signing of HR 1008 reinforces Georgia's commitment to responsible, long-term water planning that supports our state's economy, agriculture and natural resources. By updating the statewide water management plan, we will ensure that our state is set up for success for future water and environmental needs. I am grateful to see this important resolution signed into law as one of my last legislative priorities during my time in the Georgia House of Representatives. I am confident that my colleagues will continue the hard work to support our water systems and natural resources in the coming legislative sessions."

House Resolution 1008 ratifies amendments to the statewide water management plan, which was originally adopted by the State Water Council in 2025, updating Georgia's long-term framework for water supply, conservation and resource management.
