Nearly $9 million in capital improvements is transforming academic spaces, modernizing facilities, and supporting teaching and learning across RWU's Bristol campus.
BRISTOL, R.I. - Roger Williams University has made significant progress on nearly $9 million in campus improvements, completing major renovations to academic buildings, creating new instructional and collaborative spaces, and addressing long-term infrastructure needs.
The projects, which began earlier this year, focus on enhancing the student experience, supporting faculty and staff, and modernizing facilities across the university. Improvements span the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business (GSB), the Feinstein School of Humanities, Arts, and Education (SHAE), the School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management (SECCM), and the Fine Arts Building.
The investment draws on university capital budgets, philanthropy, and proceeds from the sale of RWU's Portsmouth Baypoint facility.
One of the most noticeable improvements within the Gabelli School of Business is a new digital display in the atrium. The first phase of renovations to the Gabelli School of Business has brought several key student-facing spaces to the building. The Center for Advanced Financial Education (CAFE) and Design Thinking Studio have relocated to the first floor, creating updated environments for hands-on learning, collaboration, and student engagement.
Additional improvements include a new digital display in the atrium, a renovated second-floor conference room, and exterior upgrades. Storefronts and improvements to several classrooms were completed in late October. Landscaping and planters are scheduled for completion by mid-November, followed by installation of exterior metal panels by Dec. 17.
In the new Humanities Building, renovations are creating an updated home for SHAE programs. Phase I improvements include a new art gallery, a relocated Journalism newsroom, reconfigured second-floor space for Graphic Design, and an expanded adjacent quad.
Remaining work includes art gallery and lobby lighting, landscaping, and an entrance canopy, with most of these improvements expected to be completed by late November. A new program display is targeted for completion by Dec. 10. Installation of the gallery's double doors remains pending, with materials on order and a completion date to be determined.
The new cyber lab fetures specialized lighting and finishes intended to create an immersive setting for students.SECCM's fourth phase of renovations was substantially completed this summer, modernizing second-floor instructional and student spaces. The improvements include a new Environmental Laboratory, a Cyber Laboratory, and a renovated general-use classroom (Room 201), providing additional opportunities to connect classroom instruction with hands-on learning and research.
The project also added four new single-occupancy restrooms. Installation of the Cyber Lab windows remains outstanding, with completion anticipated by Jan. 22, 2027.
At the Fine Arts Building, a new HVAC system now provides permanent air conditioning for the second-floor studio. Reconstruction of the entrance staircase is also complete. Final painting and concrete work are expected to wrap up by Nov. 6.
Improvements to the Visual Arts building will open it to new opportunities for expanded summer programs. While most of the major construction is complete, some finishing work will continue into the coming months. As projects wrap up, construction fencing will be removed, affected pedestrian areas restored, and exterior spaces completed to improve the overall campus environment.
Together, these projects represent a significant investment in RWU's academic future, providing students with updated facilities to learn, collaborate, conduct research, and develop the skills they will carry into their professional lives.
It is important to note that completion dates are estimates and may change based on construction and procurement conditions.
