House Foreign Affairs Ranking Members Meeks, Shaheen Meet with Interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Sidelines of UN General Assembly

New York City - Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, joined Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today in a meeting with Interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.

Ranking Member Meeks welcomed Interim President al-Sharaa to New York City and expressed support for his efforts to establish peace and prosperity in Syria. He expressed hope and offered support to the Syrian people as they turn the page to a new future in Syria after years of repression and civil war. The Ranking Member stressed the need to ensure religious and ethnic minority communities are protected and fully represented in a new Syria.
