The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2025 (IDay) was held today (25 October) on the HKU campus, attracting an overwhelming response with around 76,000 of prospective students and their families visited the campus to participate in admissions talks, programme information sessions, facility tours, and a wide variety of interactive experiential activities.

"AI for Every Mind" Celebrates HKU's AI Vision

The IDay, themed "AI for Every Mind", successfully demonstrated HKU's comprehensive approach to artificial intelligence across all disciplines. Throughout the day, visitors discovered that AI is not confined to computer science and engineering but is increasingly integrated into every academic field-from arts, humanities, to business, medicine, law, social sciences, etc.

HKU's faculties and schools showcased their diverse and innovative programmes, illustrating how the University equips students with essential AI knowledge and skills applicable across multiple domains. The event highlighted how HKU integrates AI into its teaching and learning, preparing students to harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence for enhancing their future careers and contributions to society.

Strengthening HKU's Leadership in AI

Professor Jay Siegel, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) of HKU, was pleased to engage with prospective students and highlighted HKU's strong commitment to empowering students with essential competencies for diverse personal development and professional success. Professor Siegel expressed, "At HKU, our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of their field of study, develops a comprehensive ability to develop, articulate and defend their own belief structure and decision-making logic. Our new programmes across all faculties demonstrate our unwavering commitment to preparing our students with timeless tools to tackle the dynamic challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. The breadth and depth of AI initiatives across HKU define a new class of technologies to assist seasoned scholars with mature cognitive skills to advance activities that create, critique, curate and communicate our store of collective human endeavor. Our newly established interdisciplinary schools, including Computing and Data Science, Innovation, Biomedical Engineering, Governance and Future Media are all founded to address unmet human needs and to position our graduates as leaders who will leverage the tools of AI ethically in the pursuit of their human-centric vision of a socially responsible future."

Launch of Comprehensive Range of AI-related Programmes

HKU offers cutting-edge programmes that seamlessly integrate AI with core disciplinary knowledge across its faculties and schools. These programmes incorporate field-specific AI applications, designed to meet evolving societal and professional needs. Visitors to the IDay learned about the newly established schools and programmes launching in the 2025/26 academic year, including:

  • School of Computing and Data Science: The Computing and Data Science (Delta+) programme (Programme Code: 6200) prepares students for careers in computing, AI, and data science. Students will be supported by a Delta+ Fellowship to pursue the final 1.5 years of their studies at the HKU-CDS Teaching and Research Site in Shanghai, including a seven-month co-operative placement within Shanghai's dynamic AI ecosystem.
  • School of Biomedical Engineering and School of Innovation: The two recently launched Schools offer pioneering undergraduate programmes in advanced and innovative technologies with the Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (Programme Code: 6925) and the Bachelor of Science in Innovation and Technology (Programme Code: 6602).
  • Faculty of Arts: Latest addition of programmes includes the Bachelor of Arts in Global Creative Industries (Programme Code: 6274) and the innovative Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (Programme Code: 6298).
  • Faculty of Engineering: Specialized engineering programmes with AI focus, including the Bachelor of Engineering Elite Programme (Programme Code: 6303) and the groundbreaking Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering (Programme Code: 6377).


These programmes blend knowledge from science, engineering, humanities, and business, etc. nurturing a human-centered mindset to equip students with the capability to tackle real-world challenges through technological innovations to thrive in an AI-driven world.

By participating in the admissions talks, interactive workshops, and other activities hosted by the various faculties and schools at HKU on the IDay, members of the public further explored HKU's programmes and learned about the University's distinctive academic environment. To celebrate HKU's 115th anniversary, a lively student performance parade was also held, showcasing the creativity and talent of HKU's diverse student community.
