RI Delegation Forgoing Pay During Trump Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC - In a show of solidarity with federal workers impacted by the 'Trump Shutdown,' all four members of Rhode Island's Congressional delegation have requested that their Congressional pay be withheld for the duration of the federal government shutdown as they fight to re-open the government and bring down health care costs for Rhode Islanders.

Emphasizing the need for a bipartisan solution to responsibly reopen the government and save Americans' health care, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo have all publicly announced they will decline their paychecks until the federal government is reopened and public servants are paid.

President Trump and Congressional Republicans initiated the federal shutdown on October 1 and continue refusing to negotiate with Senate Democrats over a plan to responsibly fund the government and save health care for millions of Americans. Throughout the federal shutdown, all four Congressional offices have remained fully open. The U.S. Senate has remained in session and continues to vote while House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has kept the House in an extended recess.
