Statement by Minister McEntee on the Gaza Peace Plan

I welcome the announcement that the second phase of the Gaza Peace Plan is now beginning. This represents a long-awaited moment of hope after a period of immense suffering.

I have just returned from the region, where I spoke directly with leaders and communities living with the daily reality of this conflict. Above all else, they spoke about the need for a genuine political pathway forward. For them, this next step is what they have been waiting for. Now is the time for it to be implemented in full and in a way that respects the Palestinian people's right to self-governance.

I want to acknowledge and commend all those who have worked tirelessly to bring us to this point, in particular the United States, Egypt, Türkiye and Qatar, whose engagement has been essential.

It is now vital that negotiations continue in good faith so that the Comprehensive Plan can be fully implemented by all parties.

At the same time, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains extremely fragile. The international community must stay actively engaged to ensure that vital humanitarian aid and essential services reach people throughout the Gaza Strip. This is currently not the case.

Ireland will continue to play its part, standing with civilians, supporting humanitarian efforts and working with partners to pursue a just and lasting peace based on a two-State solution.
