Glendale Public Works Launches Real-Time Construction Updates on Google Maps and Waze
GLENDALE, CA- To help address community concerns related to traffic and safety, Glendale Public Works has expanded how it shares construction information by integrating real-time updates into Google Maps and Waze. The initiative allows drivers to receive advance notice of lane closures, detours, and active work zones directly through the navigation apps many residents already use.
When drivers enter their destination using Waze or Google Maps, or simply have these apps open, they may now see alerts indicating nearby construction activity along their route. These updates provide valuable information before drivers reach the work zone, helping them anticipate roadway impacts, plan ahead, and make informed travel decisions.
"This effort is part of our commitment to listening to community feedback and improving how we communicate roadway impacts," said Andre Aghamalian, Construction Services Manager. "By sharing construction updates through platforms residents already rely on, we can help reduce unexpected delays and promote safer travel in construction zones and throughout the City."
Since launching the effort, construction alerts have already reached more than 47,000 road users, and more than 6,000 commuters have shared positive feedback through the platforms. Drivers are encouraged to look for these alerts the next time they plan a trip using Google Maps or Waze.
