Trump Continues to Put American Farmers Last Arrow

Donald Trump promised, "America First," but time and again, he has put American farmers last. Trump and his Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent chose to bail out Argentina's economy to the tune of $20 billion while American families and farmers bear the brunt of his disastrous economic policies. Now, farmers are being hit hard by Trump's government shutdown as USDA's Farm Service Agency offices that help farmers access loans and other services are being shuttered.

In response, DNC Deputy Rapid Response Director Jaelin O'Halloran released the following statement:

"Donald Trump is casting American farmers aside, putting them last while handing out billions of dollars to his buddies overseas. Trump says he 'loves farmers' and that he'll 'never do anything to hurt our farmers,' but because of him, countless family farms are on the brink of collapse, struggling to sell their crops and avoid going bankrupt. His unnecessary trade war has hollowed out farms across the country, and now, Trump's government shutdown is dealing another devastating blow. It's obvious where his priorities lie: Trump first, American farmers last."

Trump is bailing out Argentina, even after they sold billions of dollars of soybeans to China at a discount, robbing American farmers of critical income and undercutting key trade relationships amid China's ongoing boycott of U.S. soy. Leaked texts from Bessent and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins reveal the White House knows how absurd and hypocritical their bailout is, calling it "highly unfortunate."

While Trump spends $20 billion to bail out Argentina, American farmers and families are being sold out. Because of Trump's trade war, millions of Americans are struggling with skyrocketing prices and disappearing job opportunities - and family farms are on the brink of bankruptcy. Now, Republicans' government shutdown is harming families, farmers, and federal workers - all because Trump and Republicans don't want to extend ACA subsidies that would prevent health care costs from skyrocketing for 22 million people and 15 million Americans from losing health care because of Trump's billionaire-first budget bill.
