ECU alumni to be honored for military service

GREENVILLE, N.C. (11/6/24) - Four East Carolina University alumni will be honored for their service to the country during the Distinguished Military Service Society (DMSS) ceremony at the Main Campus Student Center on Friday, Nov. 8.

U.S. Rep. Don Davis, retired Air Force Col. George R. Farfour, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Eric Green and retired Army Col. Rodney A. Mallette will join 79 other society members who have been inducted since the creation of this recognition in 2008.

Davis '01 '07 is a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and served as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force for eight years. He coordinated Air Force One and congressional delegation operations at Andrews Air Force Base, and supported families of military members as a mortuary officer.

He was elected in 2022 to the U.S. House of Representatives. Davis previously worked as an assistant professor at ECU Air Force ROTC Detachment 600.

Farfour '89 is the associate dean of the School of Strategic Force Studies at the Air Force Institute of Technology. He assists in supervising departments responsible for the nuclear, nuclear command, control and communications and cyberspace professional continuing education in the Air Force.

Farfour was commissioned as a distinguished graduate of ECU's Air Force ROTC. He established an alumni group for ROTC Detachment 600 and established an annual scholarship.
Green '13 enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. Green was later commissioned as Navy medical service corps officer in 2013. Green has served during Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Iraqi Freedom III and Inherent Resolve.

Green has led global health engagements, strategic medical planning activities and mitigated environmental health threats around the globe. He also established a memorandum of agreement with ECU and Camp Lejeune to provide ECU students with military medicine experience.
Mallette '88 is the special advisor to the chairman of the board for International Auto Logistics (IAL). He previously was the CEO of IAL.

He served more than 27 years in the Army, including a post as chief of staff with Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command; and a joint assignment as director of operations and plans, for the Military Sealift Command.

Mallette currently serves on ECU's Honors College Advancement Council. He and his wife, Wanda '75, established a scholarship in the College of Business to support veterans or their spouses.
