HJSC secures contract for four new Navy patrol boats worth KRW 266.3 Billion

- Demonstrates expertise as a 'defense industry leader' in shipbuilding and naval maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO)

- Secured KRW 550.4 billion in orders this year in the specialized vessel sector, driven by unmatched technological capabilities

- Launch ceremony for four new high-speed patrol boats

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has reaffirmed its unrivaled competitiveness in the specialized vessel sector with a new order for four additional Navy patrol boats.

The multinational shipbuilder announced that it has signed a KRW 266.3 billion contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) to construct four new high-speed patrol boats (Geomdoksuri-B Batch-II, hulls 9-12) for the ROK Navy. The contract follows its selection as the preferred bidder after a rigorous process involving technical negotiations and other formalities.

The new high-speed patrol boats are advanced vessels designed to replace the aging Chamsuri-class patrol boats. Equipped with the latest combat systems, anti-missile decoy systems, and remote fire control, these new boats offer significantly enhanced firepower, defense capabilities, and survivability compared to their predecessors.

With this, HJSC has further solidified its leadership in the high-speed patrol boat sector. After delivering all 16 units of the previous Geomdoksuri-B Batch-I model to the ROK Navy, the global shipbuilding company secured 8 additional units in the Geomdoksuri-B Batch-II project by the end of last year, followed by an additional 4 units this year.

For over five decades, the South Korean shipbuilder has played a crucial role in developing Korea's high-speed patrol boats, earning recognition for its expertise in the sector. The company is now responsible for constructing all 28 units of the new high-speed patrol boats, which are deployed as rapid-response forces for missions such as guarding the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in border areas and coastal defense operations.

HJSC has once again proven its strength as a leading maritime defense company, securing a total of KRW 550.4 billion in orders. These include the construction of a 3,000-ton patrol vessel for the Coast Guard, the performance upgrade project for 18 guided missile fast attack crafts for the ROK Navy, depot maintenance projects for the ROK Navy's Dokdo and high-speed landing crafts, and the order for four new high-speed patrol boats. This accomplishment demonstrates the company's capability to manage both new shipbuilding and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) projects.

Yoo Sang-cheol, CEO of HJSC, stated, "Thanks to our unrivaled technological expertise, we have achieved success in various projects, including the construction, performance upgrades, and depot maintenance of the latest vessels for both the ROK Navy and the Korea Coast Guard." He continued, "With pride and a sense of responsibility as a national maritime defense company, we will complete our assigned missions flawlessly and contribute to strengthening maritime defense capabilities."
