It's the countdown to Commencement, and we have handpicked a dozen last-minute activities around the city that the Class of 2025 should do before they graduate-and possibly say goodbye to Boston (for now). Consider this the ultimate senior bucket list, with picks highlighting the best of what the area has to offer.
Did we leave something off? Let us know in the Comment section below.
Photo by APCortizasJr/iStockThere are plenty of ways to get around Boston, but have you ever tried kayaking? Grab some friends, pick up a rental at one of Paddle Boston's seven pickup locations along the Charles River, and take in BU's gorgeous campus from a different vantage point.
From Greek honors to internships to leadership positions, there are plenty of ways to make your mark at BU. But how many people can say they've been knighted at Fuller's BU Pub at the Dahod Family Alumni Center? If you've already begun the Knight's Quest, this is your reminder to make your way to the finish line and cement your place in pub history. Established in 1988, the Knight's Quest is a long-standing BU tradition, conquered by more than 2,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni. To become a BU Knight, you must be over 21 and drink 50 types of beer-you are limited to two beers a day and no more than two drinks per hour.
Even the most dedicated of BU's gym rats may not know everything FitRec has to offer. There's the climbing wall, a hot tub, stationary bike rooms, and basketball courts, open to all. But with the stress of finals in the rearview, take a float around the lazy river in the Recreation Pool, heated to a balmy 84 degrees.
It seems like just about every seafood joint in Boston has claimed the title of "Best Lobster Roll"-from Back Bay's Saltie Girl to local chain Legal Sea Foods to the North End classic, Pauli's. Recruit friends and family for your "research," and try a few before you crown the winner.
It's time to treat yourself! If you live in Allston, you're well aware of the joy that is a decadent ice cream sundae from Scoop N Scootery. Check out one of their 50-plus awesome creations and dig in-you've earned it! Better yet, this joint is open until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and even delivers until 2 am, so it's never too late for a sweet treat.
(PS: Don't miss out on the Phantomberry sundae, with black raspberry cookie swirl and vanilla ice cream, topped with white chocolate chips, fresh blueberries, graham crackers, and whipped cream. It's my favorite!)
The Class of 2025 has had the pleasure of watching Bean grow from an adorable puppy to a blossoming community resource dog. Locate Bean and her handler, BUPD Officer Geovanni Chevere, on campus via her Instagram, and show her some love before you graduate. She loves a good pet!
If you've always wanted to attend a Red Sox game at the iconic Fenway Park, but never got the chance, graduation week is the time to do it. From May 16 to 25, there are daily games at the historic ballpark, so there's no better time to enjoy a hot dog in the stands. Don't forget that college students are eligible for reduced price admission through the Student9s program. Head to the box office before the game with your BU ID and secure a $9 ticket.
The Dugout Cafe is a BU campus staple that has been up and running since 1934. Grab some friends and head to this pub at 8 pm on Wednesdays for a lively game of trivia.
Your days of using your college ID for discounts are almost numbered. Your Terrier card gets you into some of Boston's best museums-including the picturesque Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the expansive Museum of Fine Arts-for free or at a reduced price.
The second the sun comes out, Amory Park is the place to be. This Brookline park, right on the edge of BU's West Campus, is great to visit on a Friday afternoon, whether you're tanning, playing spikeball, or picnicking with friends. Plus, if you're a dog person, there are often dozens of adorable dogs running around the park that you can pet (with permission from their owner, of course).
Photos of you and your friends in your caps and gowns will last a lifetime, whether you've hired a professional photographer or recruited a shutterbug friend to capture the moment. There are the classic photo op locations like Marsh Plaza, the College of Communication lawn, and Fenway Park, but don't forget to take a couple of photos at locations that matter to you, like your freshman year dorm or your go-to seat at the George Sherman Union.
It's finally time to get your diploma! When you walk across the stage at graduation, remind yourself of the hard work and dedication that's led you to this moment. You've pulled all-nighters at Mugar, crammed for your exams, and made friends for life. It's your time to shine!
PS: Don't step foot on the BU seal before graduation because BU legend has it that if a student walks on the BU seal before Commencement, that student won't graduate. If you step on it inadvertently, according to lore, there's still hope, as long as you rush across Marsh Plaza and into Marsh Chapel.
