Senator Marshall Joins Newsmax Wake Up America

Washington - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), joined Sharla McBride and Marc Lotter on Newsmax's Wake Up America to discuss passing the Farm Bill to give American farmers certainty, the future of AI and the role of Congress, and the Vice President's fraud bust in Kansas City.

On the Senate agenda in September:

"Well, it's starting to feel like the election is just weeks away, and a lot of our focus is on that, but we'll try. We have a bill in committee in the Ag Committee - the Farm Bill - that every Democrat just voted against. By the way, my opponent said that he would vote against the Farm Bill as well. But now with Mitch McConnell back, I think that we have the majority numbers that we can pass that out of the Ag Committee and give those farmers the certainty, the predictability that they need as well. So that'll be, you know, top of my to-do list as well. I think there's a chance we can get something done on the crypto language, but again, Democrats are doing everything they can to slow down the president's agenda."

On the future of AI and the role of Congress:

"Yeah, well look, I'm the physician - I think this is a time to get consultations, second opinions, all those types of things as well. We want to measure twice, we want to cut once. I think we have to look at this, first of all, through a national security standpoint. We know, just like with nuclear weapons in the '30s and '40s, we had to stay ahead of Russia and China. That we need to stay ahead of those folks as well. I think the biggest threat would be something through cybersecurity that they could start breaking the codes as well. I'm not as fearful as some people are of a runaway AI, but of course we need to keep our eye on that as well. But we don't want to strangle it - we don't want to strangle AI to the point that it doesn't do anybody - that it actually harms humanity."

On the Vice President's fraud bust in KC:

"Yeah, you know this fraud is something that lots of Americans care about. In this case, over 800,000 Americans will never be able to access SBA loans, federal loans, those types of things again. I visited with the Vice President yesterday, and they are throwing people in jail. Every time I get back home, people want to know when are people going to jail. Well, they're going to jail, and you can go to our newsletter once a week: we feature the fraud case of the week. We'll describe this one in great detail as well. But so proud of the Vice President's work when it comes to fraud, waste, and abuse. And by the way, this is why the Democrats are refusing to do a farm bill right now. They want more fraud when it comes to food stamps and welfare, and we're not going to tolerate it."

On the upcoming election:

"Well, listen, we're not going to take anything for granted with the cost of gasoline right now. The polling is actually pretty close. It was great to see the Vice President there yesterday and talk about my woke mega church millionaire CEO. Even this guy is so woke that in a state where there's more cattle than people, he thinks that we should repent from eating beef. We should repent from our whiteness. He's the guy that sponsors drag shows for all things. So look, this will be a real race.… Look, it's a real race right now. The president coming or not, we'll see. I think he's trying to pick his battles as well. But right now, this is a tight race. We need all the help that we can get."
