Prom ReRun events were hosted earlier this month, offering donations and free pickup options for prom and formal apparel to Johnson County high school students and community members.
Hundreds of items were donated at drop-off locations from March 2 to 12, including formal dresses, shirts, pants, suits, shoes, and accessories. Donated items included:
The donations were estimated at nearly 900 pounds of material diverted from the Landfill, representing over $90,000 value in formal attire.
Dozens of high school students, community members, and local organizations received free, quality items during the March 14 pickup event at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center. This program gave donated formal clothing a second life by keeping wearable items in circulation rather than sending them to landfills. By reusing high-quality attire, the program supports sustainability goals while easing the financial pressure that often comes with attending prom and other formal events.
