Garden City Park, N.Y. - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a final cleanup plan to address contaminated groundwater at the Fulton Avenue Superfund site in Garden City Park on Long Island in New York. EPA is taking public comment on the cleanup proposal for 30 days beginning July 18 and ending August 18, 2025. The plan calls for a combination of monitoring and restrictions to address the groundwater.
"EPA is committed to providing clean water for the families in Garden City Park," said EPA Regional Administrator Michael Martucci. "This proposed plan is the result of years of careful study and coordination with state and local partners. We look forward to hearing directly from the community as we move forward."
The proposed plan will address groundwater contamination caused by past industrial activity at the site, including the presence of hazardous chemicals trichloroethylene (TCE), and tetrachloroethylene (PCE).
EPA's proposed cleanup approach includes:

Background
The Fulton Avenue Superfund site is located at 150 Fulton Avenue in Garden City Park. From 1965 to 1974, a fabric-cutting mill operated at the 0.8-acre site and used industrial solvents such as PCE and TCE that contaminated the soil and groundwater. The contamination spread to nearby groundwater sources, including public water supply wells.
EPA designated the area as a Superfund site and implemented an interim cleanup in 2015. During continued investigations, EPA detected additional TCE contamination, prompting this proposed final cleanup plan.
