China: China Launches Essentially Derived Varieties System with First Set of Ten Crops
On July 27, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) released its initial Implementation Catalogue for its new system of essentially derived varieties (EDVs) for agricultural plants, which took effect immediately upon issuance. So far, the catalogue covers 10 crops: rice, wheat, cotton, foxtail millet, faba bean, rapeseed, peanut, Chinese cabbage, pepper, and peach.
