Homicide Unit detectives have arrested Brayan Murcia-Troches, 20, on charges of reckless homicide and evidence tampering in connection with the October 2024 fatal shooting of Genesis Medina-Gonzales, 15, of Antioch.
Medina-Gonzales was brought by private vehicle to Southern Hills Medical Center and transferred to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where she died shortly after arrival.
The investigation shows that Murcia-Troches and Medina-Gonzales were in a vehicle together in the area of Richards Road on the night of October 5, 2024. Murcia-Trochez, during an interview Monday night, said he was seated behind the victim and fired shots out of the car window into the air due to a vehicle following them. He claimed while bringing the gun back inside of the car, he accidentally shot Medina-Gonzales.
Murcia-Troches was surrendered to the MNPD Monday by federal Homeland Security agents who brought him back to Nashville from an immigration detention facility in Memphis. His bond is set at $200,000.
