United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Jeremy Sherman, 54, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced on October 9, 2026, in federal court in Lincoln for one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams of methamphetamine actual and 400 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis sentenced Sherman to a total of 188 months' imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Sherman's release from prison, he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.
On September 16, 2025, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle traveling on Interstate 80 in Seward County, Nebraska. Sherman was identified as a passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle. After contacting the vehicle, a Seward County deputy saw an open bottle of Smirnoff in one of the rear doors. All three occupants of the vehicle were removed, and a probable cause search was conducted. A pat search of Sherman was conducted and investigators felt something that was consistent to feeling like a large baggie full of narcotics in Sherman's pants pocket.
Sherman was asked what was in his pocket, and he responded that it was methamphetamine. The contents were removed and it was a gallon-sized Ziploc baggie that contained approximately 140 grams of methamphetamine, a glass pipe, and a smaller baggie of approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators also found a black backpack in the rear seat next to where Sherman had been sitting. This backpack contained a Ziploc baggie with more than 4,000 M30 fentanyl pills.
The methamphetamine and fentanyl were both sent to the Nebraska State Patrol crime laboratory to be tested. The methamphetamine was confirmed to be at least 120 grams of methamphetamine actual with a purity of 98.8% and the suspected M30 fentanyl pills weighed a total of 451 grams and did in fact contain fentanyl.
This case was investigated by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force and the Seward County Sheriff's Office.
