New tourism program will develop areas on and south of the Tropic of Cancer

At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on a 2026-2029 program to develop tourist areas located on and south of the Tropic of Cancer. The premier noted that Taiwan, owing to its geographic location on the Tropic of Cancer and at the intersection of the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates, is endowed with diverse landscapes and ecosystems that make it a highly attractive tourist destination. Efforts to promote Taiwan, he said, should integrate local history and cultures, leverage storytelling to create attractions with rich cultural value, and take into account geography and climate. Furthermore, promotional strategies should be tailored to the preferences and habits of travelers from different countries and regions, supported by smart app-based systems that provide them with timely, easy-to-access travel information.

Premier Cho directed the Tourism Administration to swiftly implement the program so that initial development in three zones-Chiayi; Penghu, Taitung and southern coastal Taiwan (Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung); and Hualien and Yuli Township-can be completed by 2027, and that key initiatives can be finalized by 2028, thereby establishing a corridor of world-class attractions and landmarks for tourists to enjoy.
