Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus Zhou Yunliang Attend the Seminar on Mirror of Culture

On December 12, the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, in collaboration with Cyprus Mail, co-hosted the Seminar on Mirror of Culture - Enhancing Inter-civilization Dialogue Between China and Cyprus. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Zhou Yunliang attended and addressed the event. More than 20 participants from political, academic, cultural and media sectors of Cyprus, as well as the Chinese directors of the Confucius Institutes, joined the event as well.

Mr. Zhou noted that President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), which marks China's important efforts to promote dialogue between civilizations. Under the guidance of GCI, the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus and Cyprus Mail jointly launched the "Mirror of Culture" column in 2023, with the purpose of exploring the common threads linking the Chinese civilization and the ancient Greek civilization. To date, more than 20 articles have been published. This year, under this column, a special edition "Dialogue between Civilizations: Harmony & Democracy" was successfully published, which has attracted wider attention. It is important to draw upon the wisdom cherished by both ancient civilizations, and write a new chapter in the integrated development of human civilizations!

Participants engaged in lively discussions on deepening mutual learning between Chinese and Cypriot civilizations. In light of their visits to China, they explored the cultural underpinnings of "China's governance" and expressed willingness to make greater contributions to the growth of China-Cyprus relations.
