LSUS to celebrate Constitution Day with events, exhibits and film screening Wednesday

SHREVEPORT - LSU Shreveport will host a full day of activities on Wednesday in recognition of Constitution Day, a national observance that commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.

Events will be held throughout campus and are free and open to the community.

The day begins with a Voter Registration Drive and Protest Art Exhibit in the University Center Lobby, followed by special programs, exhibits, and a patriotic-themed Founders Day Feast at The Port.

Other highlights include a screening of National Treasure in the LSUS Theatre (7 p.m.), a discussion about promoting open dialogue on campus with the Foundation for Individual Rights & Expression, a Constitution Day exhibit on the third floor of the Noel Library, and a prisoner of war memorial table in the University Center.

"This day is about celebrating the freedoms we often take for granted while creating space for meaningful conversations," said Leigh Chambers, Chair of the Constitution Day Committee. "By combining history, art, civic engagement, and dialogue, we hope to inspire students and the community to reflect on the values that guide our democracy.

"Our goal is to make Constitution Day not just an observance, but an experience that connects history to the present. Whether it's registering to vote, engaging with protest art, or attending a dialogue on free expression, we want everyone to walk away with a renewed appreciation for civic responsibility."

Students, faculty, and community members are encouraged to pick up a Constitution Day Bingo card in the University Center Lobby. Attendees who participate in three or more events will be eligible for a prize.
