The Supreme Court of the United States has adopted a revised version of the Rules of the Court. Most of the changes are designed to support operation of newly developed software that will assist in identifying potential conflicts for the Justices, and the revisions impose a number of new requirements upon filers to support the software. When issuing the Code of Conduct for Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Justices directed Court Officers to evaluate whether such software might be useful for the Court. This software will be used to run automated recusal checks by comparing information about parties and attorneys in a case with lists created by each Justice's chambers. The system was designed and created by the Court's Office of Information Technology in cooperation with the Court's Legal Office and Clerk's Office. The software will serve in addition to existing conflict-checking procedures in chambers.

The new Rules will take effect on March 16, 2026. The revisions include "Clerk's Comments." These are not part of the Rules, but are furnished to assist readers in understanding the changes. In advance of the effective date of the new Rules, the Clerk's Office will also issue updates to many of its guidance documents, which will provide further information about the electronic submission of information that will be used for the new software.
