On 17 April, the Governing Board of the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) approved the European Commission's proposal to extend the mandate of Executive Director, Andreas Boschen, for a further three years until 2029.
The decision ensures continuity at a key moment for European air traffic management modernisation as the SESAR JU partnership continues to advance research and innovation and deliver solutions for implementation across Europe.
Since his appointment in 2022, Andreas Boschen has brought to bear the extensive experience he gained prior to joining the SESAR JU, notably through his work on the European Commission's aviation agenda - including the Single European Sky framework - and his oversight of EU funding for SESAR activities through CINEA.
Under his leadership, the SESAR JU continues to drive forward the vision of the Digital European Sky - making Europe the most efficient and environmentally friendly sky to fly in the world.
"I am deeply grateful for the continued support and collaboration of our members, colleagues and partners across Europe and beyond," said Andreas Boschen. "It is an honour to continue this journey and to help shape the future of air traffic management."
Looking ahead, the next phase will focus on implementing the European ATM Master Plan 2025, advancing an ambitious proposal for the next phase of the Common Project (CP2), and preparing the future of the SESAR programme under the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034).
