To the Families We Feed: What We're Doing Next
Throughout this summer, our thoughts have been with the people and families impacted by the Cyclospora outbreaks. We have been deeply concerned for those who became ill and understand the worry and frustration this has caused. As a family company that has spent more than 30 years feeding families, we take food safety and the trust people place in us very seriously.
In mid-July, the FDA informed Taylor Farms that shredded iceberg lettuce from our central Mexico facility was a likely source of a portion of the Cyclospora cases this summer. We immediately recalled all iceberg lettuce from that facility and suspended production to allow a full investigation by the FDA, Mexico's federal health regulator, third-party experts, and our internal team.
The CDC recently declared the Cyclospora outbreak over, and the FDA has closed its investigation. As noted in the FDA's report, "there is currently not enough evidence to conclusively determine how contamination occurred." Regardless, we are taking a comprehensive approach to make our food even safer:
We will continue to collaborate with the FDA as it implements its Cyclospora Prevention, Response and Research Action Plan and share relevant updates at https://www.taylorfarms.com.
When we founded Taylor Farms 31 years ago, we had a simple goal: to help you and your family live healthier lives by producing fresh, great-tasting food. This has guided every decision about where we farm, how we handle our produce, and the farmers with whom we partner.
Eating fresh produce is one of the best things you and your family can do for your health, and that makes keeping it safe, accessible, and dependable our greatest responsibility. We continually invest in technology, year-round testing, systems, and our team members to protect the food that we make and ensure the safest possible journey from farm to table.
Taylor Farms is more than a company to my family: it's our life's work. With the support of hundreds of independent farmers and our 25,000 passionate team members in North America, we are grateful that many of you have trusted us to feed your families for decades. We do not take your trust or that responsibility for granted. This is personal to me and my family. Helping families put fresh food on their tables was at the heart of why we started Taylor Farms years ago, and it will continue to guide everything we do every day.
Sincerely,
Bruce Taylor
